When young Anna inherits a dilapidated once-grand hotel from her Great Aunt Mathilde, she’s determined to restore it to its former glory. But this is no ordinary hotel – all of her staff and guests are animals! Anna soon rises to the challenge. Whether it’s a flamingo, a penguin or a hippo knocking at the door, Anna is ready to welcome them all – with the help of her trusty sidekicks T Bear the doorman, Squeak the friendly elevator mouse, and Lemmy the lemur receptionist … As she soon finds out, though, running an animal hotel is no easy task. Can Anna make Hotel Flamingo a success once more?
With thanks to Bonnier Books for gifting a paperback copy, of Hotel Flamingo to review.
This is not only a beautifully designed and written book, it also provides a valuable lesson about friends and team work.
I enjoyed reading through this story, it provides a powerful meaning to what can be achieved if we work together, a valuable lesson for children to learn.
When Anna Dupont arrives at the hotel after inheriting it from her Great-Aunt Mathilde, she is surprised to see how much work is needed to bring it back to its former glory.
With two characters that stayed on; Mr T. Bear and Mr Lemmy and the determination of Anna to get the hotel up and running, it starts to become a real dream!
Along with her new members of staff and a surprise visit from a tortoise that has been hibernating, Anna has the right mix of different characters, all with the perfect skills to get things completed.
As an adult, I appreciated the fun side of the story with The Glitz being the competitor hotel and the owner being called Mr Ruffian. I loved the way that insects were in the past classed as pests, rather than guests, this is something that Anna is proud to change.
The book is creatively designed and has lots of offer for the younger readers to look at, while an adult or older child reads to them, there is also the fun of trying to find the little snails throughout the story, something to do after reading it.
I definitely recommend this fun and engaging book for any age!
